TheFamousPeople.com as a source

Hi Willsome429. I noticed that you recently used thefamouspeople.com as a source for biographical information in Eden Prairie High School. Please note that there is general consensus that thefamouspeople.com does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for such information. (Discussions here and here). If you disagree, let's discuss it. Thanks. --Ronz (talk) 16:06, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Willsome429,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

Why did you revert my move on Leonard Wood (racing)?

It should have been Leonard Wood (team owner) or something like that because he doesn't race, he is a team owner. 99721829Max (talk) 20:56, 9 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

”Racing” does not mean he is a driver. It means he is involved with the sport of racing. And we like to keep page titles broad, as you can see from the number of pages that say “racing driver” instead of “NASCAR driver” because NASCAR is not everything. Hi Max. To attempt to gain rollback rights, apply at WP:PERM/Rollback. And I think it is more than fair to give me more than 61 minutes to respond before you poke with a follow up. What if I’m at work? What if I’m on a long drive? This kind of impatience lands you in hot water in certain areas of the encyclopedia. Because nonexistent categories have no place on pages. It’s not beneficial to swap out existing categories (racing drivers from New York State) for a nonexistent one (racing drivers from Manhattan). Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 02:14, 27 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Josh, and thank you for bringing your concerns here. Here's where the situation stands: I am not interested in being "your Wikipedia guy", paid or unpaid. I merely reverted your edits because they go against WP:V, which states that all content has to be cited by reliable sources. NFLisAwesome presumably spent a lot of time building what I consider a quality page, better than the pages for a lot of other drivers on here. As is also stated on your talk page, the Wikipedia conflist of interest policy states that subjects of Wikipedia pages are highly advised not to edit their own pages, and instead encouraged to take their concerns to the talk page, which I will go more in depth there. Thank you for your cooperation. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 00:53, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@NASCAR1: I have continually addressed you as Josh, and I don't doubt that you are the driver. However, there are policies that Wikipedia is tied to, and more likely than not this would've happened eventually with another editor. I would once again like to reiterate that there is, however, an opportunity to potentially change some of what you believe is misinformation. Drop links to sources that back up the information you added (here, on the article's talk page, on your talk page), and I can make it work. Almost every sentence in that article is suppoorted by a citation, so I don't quite know how that much misinformation spread throughout that many different sources, but if you have different sources, I will do my best to make it happen. Thanks for your explanation (2007 Cup Series article)

Hello Willsome429, I think this is how you do this (write back). I'm a new editor so hopefully I got it. This is my first attempt at doing this.

Thanks so much for your comment to me/explanation on the 2007 Cup Series season article as to why you think the crew chiefs who don't have their own articles should still have links on their names (and which will be in red since they don't work). It seems like you know your stuff (you talked about a rule/policy or something I wasn't aware of) and because of that, I'll leave that alone going forward. The only reason I thought they should be removed is because on some of the other more recent seasons (such as this year's), they don't have "red no article links", so just to keep things consistent, I thought I'd do that. I also updated some of the crew chief info because not all of them crew chiefed those teams the whole year according to the Jayski chart and Racing Reference. Just like how it is with all the recent seasons articles where they list multiple CC's and what races they crew chiefed for that team.

I also just read your info page and looks like you've been doing this for quite a while now. I never knew you wrote all those articles about these drivers and football players. Keep up the good work!

Thanks again, Sean Cavanaugh (Cavanaughs)

8/8/19

@Cavanaughs: Hi Sean, and welcome. It’s just a matter of me not having a ton of time to red link a lot of stuff as to why, and I see how you could get confused. Again, thank you for your constructive contributions to the page, and as you edit more, don’t be afraid to ask myself or anybody else also working on pages you’re working on for help. You seem to edit about racing a lot, and I’d like to extend the invite to you to join WikiProject NASCAR, a collaboration among editors. Listing of withdrawals on 2019 Truck Series standings

Aah, I see. That does seem like a fair agreement/decision. I was using Racing Reference because I knew there were more withdrawals than the one or two that were not deleted after I put them on the first time. Like my edits you explained last time, I again wasn't aware of that "rule", so I waited a week or so and then added them back a week or so later. I feel like in the past I remember seeing all withdrawals listed on past standings (from like 2009 or 2010, which are the first two years on the site which have a complete standings that are the kind used today), but I could be wrong though.

Thank you for explaining again.

I've reverted my edits

Dear Willsome, Just wanted to let you know that I did change the edits back in regards to the picture format of the images of the championship 4 drivers from the 2016 and 2017 Xfinity and Truck Series articles. I thought it would be cool to have their pictures in a horizontal row (instead of vertical/down like in numerous other Nascar season articles where there are multiple pictures), but I clearly don't know how to do that yet and as a result there was, as you saw in the 2018 Xfinity and Truck articles, this funky text above each image. Now it's all gone and the pictures of those drivers are shown vertically.

Hey, Willsome429, I'm sorry about my "copy-paste moves" but I had to because I can't move over a redirect. How do you do that? 99721829Max (talk) 19:39, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

You're missing the point. Credit due to the racing driver, but he's not the main topic of Tyler Hill, as Tyler Hill Camp has more pageviews in the past 30 days. I don't think we should look at moving this particular set of pages until he becomes full-time or at the very least picks up races at a more frequent rate, presumably leading to more page views. Thank you for letting me know. 99721829Max (talk) 19:52, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I also have XTools turned on, which for me showed that the camp had a few more 30-day pageviews than the racing driver. I too believe that moving the dab page to “Tyler Hill” would be the best idea. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 12:16, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Warriorwolfraven: Hi Greg, and thanks for reaching out. I did not stop the page, I just rerouted it. The main issues that I found were that there were no sources and that there were myriad manual of style issues. It wasn’t ready for the main space yet, so I moved it to Draft space, where you can work on it without it getting deleted. I’m not particularly interested in rugby, so I’m not going to develop the page for you, but read this for information on citing sources and this for information on how to make your article look like a Wikipedia page. Once you have developed the page to your liking, submit it for review (there should be a button on the page) and a reviewer will either accept it or give the page more feedback. Speedy deletion nomination of Dustin Skinner

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dustin Skinner requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. 99721829Max (talk) 01:10, 10 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dustin Skinner edit

I put the CSD template there because the article was recently deleted per a deletion discussion. 99721829Max (talk) 01:22, 10 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your reasoning shows a grave lack of understanding in the area. The G4 deletion rationale is for pages similar to those deleted before. The deleted page had one sentence. This one has eight sources. Please stop this disruptive editing immediately and take some time to read and learn so that you use CSD (and Twinkle in general) correctly. I would also strongly suggest reading AfD primers after your recent South Fork adventure that caused quite a bit of confusion. New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

Hello Willsome429,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

There are so many articles with few citations but are kept as a stub. Why do you remove articles I write — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tripple666 (talkcontribs) 00:42, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Tripple666: Hello, and thanks for reaching out. I'd like to clear up a couple points. First off, I did not remove your article, per se, I redirected it instead. Contrary to what you may think, I did not redirect the article because it was about an African, or because you are a new editor. Like the talk page message said, the page was undersourced to me. The TVSA bio backed up some information, and the other source was hidden to me because I'm not subscribed to the magazine. If there are "quite numerous citations", feel free to add them in to the page and the folks at Articles for Creation will help you out from there. And as for other articles including sources from not-so-great websites, see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS - editors should continue to try and strive for a high bar, as if we aim low, the quality will continue to slip. I can't do a quality control check of the entire 5,850,000 pages on the encyclopedia, but I try to keep my tiny slice of it well-maintained. I hope that answers all your questions and concerns, and if you have any more, feel free to leave them below. Regards, Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 01:16, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good morning!

Thank you for getting back at me. So it is therefore recommendable to go with one citation on Sipho? Tripple666 (talk) 04:47, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

And why was it automatically moved to drafts?

Panchiakos GS is one example of what I'm talking about. It only has one reference and it has made it through. Should I just leave the TVSA only, won't you direct it for speedy deletion? Previously you've advised me on what should be removed. But then on Sipho you've auto moved it without leaving a direct advice. Why was that? And the draft you've transformed it to has no content. Why was that? Tripple666 (talk) 04:59, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Tripple666: Panchiakos stayed because another editor made what I thought was an implied effort to convert sources from the Greek page of the same name to the English page. Again, I would like to stress that just because one other case exists, it doesn't mean that it is the norm. And to clarify more, I never tagged your page for speedy deletion. The draft contains the same content that the page in the mainspace had, just under a different title. My advice would be to add all of the citations that you have on Mr. Midingi and then submit the article for review. A different page reviewer (not myself) helped you with Mr. Ramodisa's page, and when you submit this article for review after you have added citations, you should get another message like that on acceptance of the page or what improvements need to be made further. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. Speedy deletion declined: 2017 PowerShares QQQ 300

Hello Willsome429. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of 2017 PowerShares QQQ 300, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: event organized by a notable organization, part of a notable series, with notable competitors and television and radio broadcasting is clearly significant. Thank you. SoWhy 15:38, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

AfC

Hi. Following your request, I have added your account to the list of AfC reviewers. If you have any questions or need any assistance, don't hesitate to ask at the Help Desk. Do bear in mind however, that New Page Review is also severely backlogged and is a higher priority. It needs all the help it can get. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 22:59, 15 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Jon McKennedy AfD

Hey, Willsome, after 7 days the AfD's are closed. Please read the directions on AfD's. 99721829Max (talk) 18:10, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Max. As it turns out, I have been contributing to AfD discussions since before you have been editing on here. A common occurence in AfD discussions is that after one weeks' time, there is either not enough support for the cause of deletion or conflicting supports for keeping and deleting. This will lead to one of the WikiProject AfD memebers to "relist" the discussion, i. e. bump it up another week for discussion to try and gain a clearer consensus, which is the baseline of all AfD outcomes and discussions. Looking through today's AfD log, there are examples of pages that have been relisted. This isn't the first time that I've had to talk to you about behavior in AfD discussions - if you would like to participate more, please further examine procedures on these types of discussions so that we do not run into any more of these situations. hey

Hey man, need a help on rejected wiki sub, [4672], to be fair the reason is pretty vague regardless the fact I've based it on other bands, please advice, thanks

@Spectrosphere: Thank you for reaching out to ask. One of the most confusing things for me as the reviewer was the constant brackets ([]) around all band members names. Wikipedia policy requires that people are referred to by last name, not first name or nickname, per WP:SURNAME. Another question for me was whether the band name has brackets in it or not, as the page title does not but almost everything on the page does. There were also a lot of unsubstantiated, fluffly claims, like "Short under 30 minutes long album finally has been recognised in Europe gaining first reviews in Czech and Poland." The sentence violates WP:PUFFERY and was not supported by a reliable source. As a final point, though not one related to the essay-ness of the page, all external links outside the external links section will need to be removed to comply with Wikipedia policy. I hope that helps, don't hesitate to ask again if you have more questions. Regards, Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 19:18, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

hey, thanks for clarifying! that's awesome you're helping me out! indeed the name of the project is in the the brackets [], but if this is an issue I can amend? as well as the following: 1. full names instead of nicknames 2. then "fluffly claims" 3. external links to be deleted

P.S. I've amended things you've mentioned however I've not submitted the article yet, I'd like to ask you kindly for final check before sending it through, also I'm not sure what to do with brackets in the bands name, should I remove it altogether or leave it as it is, or change the page title as well?

thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spectrosphere (talkcontribs) 17:48, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

thanks all the best! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spectrosphere (talkcontribs) 17:27, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spectrosphere: There are still external links sticking in the page, namely in the biography section. There is also a serious WP:V problem in that the biography section does not cite any sources, so those are the two main issues that I would fix before submitting it. There are also Manual of style issues that could be fixed, such as bolding the title at the beginning of the page and eliminating the pipe (|) from the genres, instead separating them by commas. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 18:03, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Willsome429: Hey, thanks again for your help and time spend on my submission, once again I really appreciate your help! Much obliged! I've managed to remove all external links in Bio section like you've asked, also I've fixed the "pipes" and and MOS, however please do check citing in Bio for me, unfortunately there's not a lot of existing WP pages I could refer to, hopefully it is enough though?!, maybe to permanently fix this, in the future I should create more WP pages expanding on bands albums and band members? what do you think? I hope at this time this is enough at least for the start?! all the best!
@Spectrosphere: A lot of the MOS fixes are good. The "Influences" and "Discography" sections are still fully unsourced, so I would add sources to those sections before resubmitting. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 14:58, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Willsome429: Hey Will, If you don't mind, please have a final look at the amendments, I've removed influences section all together, I thought it had no value add to the article, and I think whole page reads better now, any suggestions please give me shout, thanks!

A barnstar for you!

Draft: Pollfish

Hi,

Can you please explain what part of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Pollfish was too editorialized? As far as I can tell, every statement was cited correctly and stated factually, without bias. So if you could be specific as to the sections and issues you saw, that would help a lot. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.252.27.202 (talk) 13:49, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

The issue is not that it was editorialized. The issue was that it read like a press release for the company. Notability by association is one of the biggest issues, it reads as though one is trying to flaunt the company through working with others. The "For Survey Creators" and "For App Publishers" also seemed like something that would appear on the company's website. I would suggest combining them into a blanket section, and also source the main portions of those two sections. The section about "welcoming board members" and boasting their former credentials reads like an ad. The RDE section also boasts about technology and is almost completely unsourced. Add sources to those sections, tone down the vibe that it reads from the company's website (in fact, DIY survey platform is), and I would recommend resubmitting. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 14:57, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your guidance here. I made the edits suggested above. Would you let me know if there is anything further I should add before re-submitting? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.252.27.202 (talk) 18:31, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

I see that it was declined again on the basis of not enough corporate depth. As a helpful formatting tool, see WP:Named reference to see how you can use the same reference more than once without reusing the entire cite template. The decline looked to me a pretty close one, so I would say maybe two or three more sources about the company excluding fundraising and resubmit for another go at it. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 22:28, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Question on Sources.

So I recently had an article declined by you over Tropical Storm Octave. You declines it for the reason "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified." I am wondering how the National Hurricane Center in the United States of America is not a reliable source? Can you please explain? Thanks for your time and help.Elijahandskip (talk) 14:57, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Elijahandskip: As noted in my review comment, in order for a subject to be included on Wikipedia, there must be siginificant coverage in multiple independent sources. The point of contention is not that NOAA isn't reliable - it most certaily is - it's that there need to be multiple reliable sources. Hope that helps. Request on 18:51:53, 30 October 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Mightytotems

Hi! I'm a bit perplexed why the revisions were declined. According to WP:SELFSOURCE, my usage of Twitter sources are considered reliable. Furthermore, the information contained in the Twitter sources are backed up by other third-party sources referenced.

Mightytotems (talk) 18:51, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Mightytotems: My posted reasoning was a little misleading. It should have said that Twitter is not a reliable source for indicating notability. While it is okay to source content on a page, it is not useful for determining notability of a page, as anybody or anything could have a page and reference it through their socials. As for a course of action going forward, I would add about two more sources independent of the league (I’m sure there are some) and resubmit - the page visually looked pretty good. Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 20:06, 30 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks for the feedback! I've removed all tweets references and added additional sources for notability concerns as you asked. Mightytotems (talk) 19:52, 2 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

CityFalcondraft rejection

Hello there. Recently you have rejected this draft

Could you please clarify in detail what should be done to make this page published?

Gevlar (talk) 10:07, 1 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Gevlar: The draft was resubmitted without improvement, so the previous comments by CNMall41 still apply. Please see WP:NCORP for notability guidelines on how to establish notability for companies. The main issue seems to be in the reliability of the sources - a lot of the sources are from organizations affiliated with CityFalcon, such as Level39 and Kickstart. More outside, independent, significant coverage of the company needs to be added. Giving more context on accelerators and linking to page(s) about business accelerators will also help provide context for the article. @Willsome429:Thank you for such a quick reply. I will follow the guidelines and come back to you soon Gevlar (talk) 12:05, 6 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello Willsome429,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 805 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Declining Draft:Titiksha_(Festival)

Thanks for taking the time to look at the draft I created for the technical fest of our college. It hurts to see it getting decline but I hope you will help me fix it and get it approved next time. The reason you stated was that I gave only university links for reference but I have also provided newspaper links for the post of the events they did. There are links of last year and also posts dating back to 2013. It's an annual event and the biggest technical one in the whole state. Any help is appreciated.Shoaib Ahmed 00 (talk) 08:24, 29 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Shoaib Ahmed 00: Hi Shoaib, and thank you for reaching out. I apologize for any miscommunication that may have occurred - I recognized that you had references from an outside source (Daily Excelsior) mixed in with the university links. Per Wikipedia's verifiability policy, all topics must be covered by multiple outside sources. The Daily Excelsior references are a good start, but it needs outside coverage from at least one other place, and preferably two or three more. After you have those added, feel free to resubmit. Thanks, Willsome429 (say hey or see my edits!) 20:38, 30 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Willsome429: Hey, thanks for replying. As per your suggestion, I added 4 different sources apart from university and previously used Daily excelsior. I have resubmitted it, so let's hope for the best.Shoaib Ahmed 00 (talk) 04:00, 1 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
