Radio Sutatenza was a Colombian station which broadcast cultural and educational programs between 1947 and the late 1980s. It was the first community radio station.[1]

It was founded by Catholic priest Monsignor José Joaquin Salcedo Guarin in the Tenza Valley, and with additional transmitters expanded to cover coastal regions.[2]

Guarin convinced the government to give every peasant the - at that time - newly invented transistor radio, which enabled the education of over four million peasants.[citation needed]

The One Laptop Per Child roll-out in Latin-America is building upon this experience.[citation needed]
