On July 13, 2015, the journal changed its name from the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review to the Georgetown Environmental Law Review. The journal staff stated, "We anticipate that our broader name will enable the journal to continue to attract and publish high quality environmental scholarship from international authors, while also enhancing our prospects for top-tier domestic works. And even after this change, GELR will remain dedicated to its fundamental mission statement, which recognizes that 'environmental issues do not recognize political boundaries, nor do they respect territorial integrity.'"
Issues
The publication covers a broad range of environmental issues such as climate change, renewable energy, the protection of the global commons, regional and comparative issues, and the intersection of the environment and international legal areas such as trade, human rights, security, and technology transfer. The intended audience is nearly as broad as the subject matter. Each publication seeks to disseminate timely information designed for the practitioner, policymaker, scholar, and student of international and environmental law.
