Dr. Daggubati Ramanaidu is a multilingual Indian film producer. He is the founder of Suresh Productions and holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most films produced by an individual, having produced more than 150 films in 13 Indian languages. He has also served as a member of parliament for the Baptala constituency of Guntur District in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999–2004.

In 2012, Ramanaidu was conferred with the third highest civilian award in the Republic of India, the Padma Bhushan, in recognition for his contribution to Telugu cinema. In 2009 he received the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for Lifetime Achievement in the film industry for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema,
Ramanaidu contributes a substantial part of his earnings to numerous philanthropic purposes including the Ramanaidu Charitable Trust that was founded in 1991.
Early life
During his schooling, he used to participate in several activities and was often the leader amongst his friends. He spent a 6 years in Ongole with Dr. B. V. L. Narayana who had a large impact on his life. He respected and looked up to Narayana so much so that he aspired to study to become a doctor as well. During his vacations, he worked in the hospital as a compounder to familiarize himself with the field.
However, never strong as school work he failed once before he passed and joined Loyola College in Madras. As he was more interested in extra-curricular activities such as drama, he failed out of Loyola and returned to Chirala to finish his education there. Again, he wasn’t able to keep up with his studies and decided to quit and start working instead.
He took to taking care of a rice mill business and a bus transport business in Karamchedu. Soon after, his interests shifted and when someone from his area started Shambu Films, a production agency, he forced his father to become a partner and began to work for and invest in this company. During this time, he became more and more involved with the production process by taking care of on-set shoot arrangements. It was at this time that he became acquainted with and very close to Akkineni Nageshwara Rao.
Furthermore, lead actors of the time such as Aadurthi Subbarao, S V Ranga Rao, and Gummadi spent much time with Ramanaidu in his house and built quite the rapport with him. Through these connections, he scored his first cameo role in “Nammina Bantu”.
Through his Shambu Films, he decided to work closely with production of “Nammina Bantu” as well. After this film, the production house did not take on any films for a while and Ramanaidu’s interest in the industry reduced considerably during this break.(Beginning from “Nammina Bantu”, it became a hobby of his to star in cameo roles in a few films.)
He then worked turned to tobacco industry which did well but Dr. D Ramanaidu knew his heart wasn’t in it and was not internally satisfied. On July 24, 1962, he moved to Madras to work with his relatives in the brick business. It wasn’t until his close relative, Bhaskar Rao, started a production company called Anuroopa that he returned to the film industry. Under the Anuroopa banner, he produced his first film in 1963 – “Anuragam”, directed by G. Ramaneedu. As “Anuragam” was not a commercial hit, he wanted to make another film to recover the profits. However, Anuroopa turned him down his request.
Career - Producer
Dr. D. Ramanaidu started Suresh Productions, named after his son, with his childhood friends G. Rajendra Prasad (Madhavi Combines) and Subba Rao. He produced Raamudu Bheemudu in 1964 – the first film under the Suresh Productions banner. As this film was a tremendous hit, he continued to produce films successfully enough.
Ramanaidu had decided to have a large ‘S’ and ‘P’ logo designed for his production agency. He wanted a sketch of his elder son to be placed above the ‘S’ and Venkatesh Daggubati, his younger son, to be placed above the ‘P’. But young Suresh objected to be placed above the ‘S’. So, they switched places and Venkatesh’s sketch was placed above the S and he became the Star while Suresh, placed above the P, became the producer.
In 1968, B Nagireddy’s sons and Ramanaidu combined to form a company called Vijaya Suresh Combines and Suresh Movies. They did 4 movies together and in 1970, when they suffered a few losses, they decided to break up the partnership and go their separate ways.
In 1971 – As the filming for Premnagar started, a nervous Ramanaidu announced that if this film flopped, he would return to Karamchedu and quite the business. So quite literally, his life depended on the success of this one film.
Fortunately, as the film was a huge success, under the Suresh Productions banner, he produced up to 74 films from 1993 to 2005 in several languages. While producing the movie “Secretary”, he visited Hyderabad for shooting. He had never before considered moving to Hyderabad but during the shoot, he thought to build a studio in Hyderabad. Back then, Hyderabad was an underdeveloped and hill-y area and many criticised him for risking his fortune on building a studio there.
1988 – “Brahmaputrudu” was a big commercial hit and ended up helping him pay off the debts for his studio. 1989 - He launched his studio – Ramanaidu Studios. The studio was so equipped that when someone walked in with a script, it was said that they came out with the final copy ready for release. 1990 – Ramanaidu Colour Lab launched. 1994 – He launched Cine Village in Nanakramguda, which was used by the entire industry for outdoor shoots. During his career as a producer, he introduced 24 directors and several actors and music directors, who have since become very famous and owe their success to him.
Politics
Ramanaidu is a member of the Telugu Desam Party and represented Baptala constituency in Guntur District in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999–2004. He lost in the elections to the same seat for the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004.[1][2] D.ramanaidu looking to participate in general elections.[3]
Awards and Recognitions
Ramanaidu was conferred with the third highest civilian award in the Republic of India, the Padma Bhushan, in recognition for his contribution to Telugu cinema. The Andhra Pradesh Government nominated him and director Bapu in November 2012 and it was presented by President Pranab Mukherjee on Republic Day, January 26th 2013.[4]
In 2009, Ramanaidu received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in cinema. Ramanaidu was the 41st recipient of the award instituted in 1969 (the birth centenary of D. G. Phalke, who is generally regarded as the father of Indian cinema) and the 10th producer to have received the award.
Ramanaidu has received an honorary doctorate from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.[5]

Vignana Jyothi is a registered society that was initiated in 1991 by group of like-minded Industrialists, Academics, Professionals and Non Residential Indians. With the intention of imparting quality education and contributing to social justice and economic stability of the society, Vignana Jyothi has achieved academic excellence through the establishment of relevant and successful institutions. Though experimentation in the educational field has been quite successful, the members felt that they had not reached their goals in terms of the farming and agricultural community.
Then, with the generous contribution of 33 acres of land by Rama Naidu at Tuniki Village, Kowdipally Mandal, Medak District, the Society has decided to set up a rural development institute and name the Institute as "Dr D. Rama Naidu Vignana Jyothi Institute of Rural Development".
