The Maggia River is a river in the Swiss canton of Ticino.
The springs are near the Cristallina mountain and the river runs through the Val Sambuco, the Val Lavizzara, and the Valle Maggia, and enters Lago Maggiore near Ascona.
The river is used for hydroelectric power production, e.g. with the Naret and Sambuco dams near the sources.
The Maggia river is a popular Scuba dive spot due to its crystal clear waters.

Maggia is also a town in the Vallemaggia District of Canton Ticino, Switzerland . It has 774 inhabitants (2000). In 2004 have been created a new Municipality (Comune in italia) with other villages (Moghegno, Aurigeno, Giumaglio, Someo and Lodano). Since 2004 the new commune is called "Nuova Maggia" (New Maggia in Italian, or simply Maggia). It has about 2400 Inhabitants. The official language is italian.
