Daimler Air Hire was a private air hire company established June 7 1919 by Lieutenant Colonel Frank Searle CB, DSO, of the BSA Motorcycle Company. In 1921 Daimler Air Hire acquired Aircraft Transport and Travel (AT&T) to form the Daimler Airway.
History
From April 1922 the Daimler Airway was the first company to begin operating de Havilland DH.34 cabin biplane (tail number G-EBBQ),[1] flying from Croydon Airport London to Paris.[2]
From 1922 until 1924, the Daimler Airway operated daily scheduled flights from Alexandra Park Aerodrome to Croydon Airport London. In 1923 they added a London, Amsterdam, Hanover, Berlin route with another DH.34 (tail number G-EBBS).
The Daimler Airway was merged into Imperial Airways effective 1 April 1924, bringing along its three DH-34 aircraft.
Accidents and incidents
In April 1922, a Daimler Hire de Havilland DH.18A (tail number G-EAWO) was destroyed when it collided in midair with a Farman F.60 Goliath over Picardie, France.[3]
