In 2020 the impacts of the [[COVID-19_pandemic_in_Australia|Coronovirus Covid-19 pandemic]] resulted in the cancellation of that year's Pan Pacific Masters Games<ref>{{cite web |url= https://mastersgames.com.au/ppmg/event-cancelled/ |title=2020 Pan Pacific Masters Games Cancelled |year= 2020 |website= PPMG |accessdate= 19 July 2020 }}</ref>, giving rise to the inaugural South East Queensland Masters Football Championships to take its place. The event is planned for November 2020, and will be a similar event to the Pan Pacific Masters Football. The event will cater to various age divisions for both men and women, and accomodateaccommodate a more localised field of competitors and teams whilst taking into consideration the impacts and travel restrictions related to the pandemic.
