A lifelong poet of resistance, he wrote 28 volumes of poetry, three of prose, and ten of translations between 1938 and (published posthumously)1998. Kramer was a professor of English at [[Dowling College]] in [[Oakdale, New York|Oakdale]] on, Long Island, New York.<ref name = NYTobit>
