Where in response to apparently invisible stimuli, an entire mass of birds takes to the sky (seemingly) simultaneously. Is this herd behavior or something else? If its something else, please let me know! [[Special:Contributions/74.128.56.194|74.128.56.194]] ([[User talk:74.128.56.194|talk]]) 11:53, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

I came to this article searching for a short summary of Herding Behavior theories in Economics. Although is a small subset of "Herding Behavior", it has been widely studied phenomena in the last 25 years. I'm not active in Wikipedia and don't want to be active either, but I can suggest you some references. For example, here in wikipedia you have an article about Informational Cascades, which is a set of models that explain herding behavior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_cascade). You can also review the classical paper of Schaferstein and Jeremy Stein (1990) in American Economic Review. You might want to consult with people working on the Economics Portal.

Cheers!
