The main event of Swerve Strickland vs Will Ospreay received widespread acclaim, with many calling it the best AEW match of 2024. Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer rated the match 5.5 stars, the highest rated match of the night. Elsewhere, NJPW's Shingo Takagi wrestled Bryan Danielson in a 20-minute 4.75 star classic that would have been regarded as the best match of the night, if not for the main event. The worst rated match of the night was a 1 star contest between Kyle Fletcher of the Don Callis Family, and the masked Serpentico. The fatal-four way tag, MJF vs CMLL's Hechicero, and the six man tag between Samoa Joe, Hook, and Katsuyori Shibata vs Chris Jericho, Big Bill and Jeff Cobb all received 3.25 stars. The match between Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa received 4 stars, while Mariah May vs Saraya received 2 stars and Willow and Tam vs Kris and Momo received 3.5 stars. The six-man TNT Championship ladder match and Orange Cassidy vs Zack Sabre Jr received 4.5 stars, Mistico & Lucha Bros vs L.IJ received 4.25 stars, the Acclaimed and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs The Elite received 3.75 stars, and Jon Moxley vs Tetsuya Naito received 3 stars.
The match between Mercedes Moné vs Stephanie Vaquer was rated 4 stars, and would go on to be Stephanie Vaquer's last match prior to joining the WWE. Despite losing the NJPW Strong Women's title, Stephanie Vaquer's strong performance in the match led her to be given a lucrative contract offer from WWE just days later, which she accepted. As part of this agreement, Vaquer unceremoniously withdrew from her deals with both CMLL and NJPW, which caused a negative reaction from both companies. Also of note, the reaction from the Long Island crowd to the newest member of the Elite and Bostonian Mercedes Moné was unusually hostile, and led to her to embrace the hostile response in the weeks following Forbidden Door, in a feud with the returning Britt Baker.
