He is an honorary fellow of [[London South Bank University]] and Honorary Senior Fellow in the Health Services Management Centre at the [[University of Birmingham]]. In 2009 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws ([[Legum Doctor|LLD]]) degree from [[Lancaster University]].
