The [[Island-class patrol boat]]s were constructed in [[Bollinger Shipyards]], [[Lockport, Louisiana]]. ''Mustang'' has an overall length of {{convert|110|ft|m}}. It had a [[beam (ship)|beam]] of {{convert|21|ft|m}} and a [[draft (ship)|draft]] of {{convert|7.3|ft|m}} in 2020. At that time, the patrol boat displaced {{convert|165|t|LT ST}} at full load. She is powered by two [[Paxman Valenta]] 16 CM diesel engines developing a total of {{convert|5760 |hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} at 1500 RPM.<ref name="FactSheet2020" /> It has two {{convert|99|kW|PS shp}} 3304T diesel generators made by Caterpillar; these can serve as [[motor–generator]]s.
