The poster had evoked protests and the film director M. S. Anbu received murders treats. Speaking about the controversy, the film director said, "The poster had my heroine striking a pose with the heroes in wedding costume. While some people praised me for the concept, some others from certain organisations felt offended. These people felt that a girl getting married to two people is against Tamil culture. But I told them it was inappropriate to come to a conclusion without even seeing the film".<ref>{{cite web|url=https://tamil.filmibeat.com/specials/20-controversy-over-mittai-posters.html|title=1 பெண், 2 கணவர்கள்! மீண்டும் சர்ச்சை|date=20 May 2010|access-date=16 December 2020|language=Tamil|trans-title=Controversy over Mittai posters|publisher=filmibeat.com}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=https://cinema.dinamalar.com/tamil-news/2569/cinema/Kollywood/Murder-threat-to-Mittai-movie-director.htm|title=மிட்டாய் பட டைரக்டருக்கு கொலை மிரட்டல்|date=31 August 2010|access-date=16 December 2020|language=Tamil|trans-title=Murder threat to Mittai movie director|publisher=Dinamalar}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tamil/movies/news/Mittai-is-a-beautiful-love-story/articleshow/6468662.cms|title=Mittai is a beautiful love story|access-date=16 December 2020|publisher=[[The Times of India]]}}</ref>
