Huang Bowen started his football career with [[Beijing Guoan F.C.|Beijing Guoan]] when he was promoted to the club's first team in the 2004 season. As a promising youngster, he made his debut for the club on 26 May 2004 in a 4-1 win against [[Shenyang Ginde]] that also saw Huang score his first goal, at the age of 16 years and 317 days, he held the record as the youngest ever goalscorer in top tier Chinese football for nearly 19 years, until it being broken by [[Shahsat Hujahmat]] in April 2023.<ref name="NFT">{{NFT player|id=26468|name=Huáng, Bówén|access-date=2012-07-27 July 2012}}</ref> By the end of his debut season, he'd played in six league games.
