Sharafiya was predominantly populated by [[Yazidis]] before [[Assyrian people|Assyrians]] of the [[Tyari (tribe)|Tyari]] tribe settled in the village fleeing [[Hakkari (historical region)|Hakkâri]] during the [[Assyrian genocide]].
