Although is a small subset of "Herding Behavior", it has been widely studied phenomena in the last 25 years. I'm not active in Wikipedia and don't want to be active either, but I can suggest you some references. For example, here in wikipedia you have an article about Informational Cascades, which is a set of models that explain herding behavior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_cascade). You can also review the classical paper of Schaferstein and Jeremy Stein (1990) in American Economic Review.
