Plagge started playing the [[piano]] as four years old, and made a sensational recital debut in the University Hall in Oslo, only twelve years old.<ref name=listento/> He also started composing at an early age, had his first work published aged twelve, and is particularly renowned for his works for wind instruments. Despite a rheumatic disorder Plagge often occurs as pianist and has played with several leading orchestras. Wolfgang Plagge (b. 1960 in Oslo) started playing the [[piano]] at the age of 4 and became well known having won an English TV competition in 1970. He debuted as a pianist at the University Aula in Oslo with his majesty the King Olav present in the hall.
Plagge has studied with [[Reimar Riefling]] and [[Jens Harald Bratlie]] in Oslo, and with [[Evgeni Koroliov]] at the music academy in Hamburg. His composition teacher in Norway was [[Øistein Sommerfeldt]] and [[Johan Kvandal]]. In Germany he studied with the Hungarian [[György Ligeti]].
Wolfgang Plagge began composing as a child and has achieved a comprehensive list of works that span a wide range of genres. As a piano soloist and chamber musician, he is active all over the world, and has collaborated with many renowned musicians, both domestically and international.
Plagge has a strong fondness for historical and music historical research, something which can be heard in his compositions. He has developed a headstrong and engaging tonal language that has provided him with a large audience and enthusiastic performers across the globe. Several of his works have already become standard works in their genres.
His works have been recorded on 2L, Philips and Crystal record labels.
Sheet music is available from Norsk Musikforlag AS, Musikk-Husets forlag AS and from MIC Nasjonalbiblioteket.
Over the years, Wolfgang Plagge has gained a large audience as a popular speaker and communicator of music, including through numerous programs on NRK radio station.
He has been associated with the Norwegian Academy of Music since 2002 and from 2009 as a professor there.
 
Plagge has since he was 8 years been organist and eventually [[Cantor (Christianity)|Cantor]] in Asker and Bærum congregation of [[The Catholic Church]] in [[Stabekk]], Norway. He has a significant number of musical contribution to the Catholic hymnbook in Norway, "Lov Herren" (Praise the Lord).
