The Vancouver Canucks are fielding calls on Elias Pettersson and J.T Miller and one Eastern Conference team is wanting to talk.
The Boston Bruins and Canucks have been discussing trades involving one of the two star centres, per Montreal Canadiens’ reporter Marco D’Amico.
The Canucks have been reported to be strongly considering trading one of Miller or Pettersson as a solution for their ongoing feud.
The Bruins are currently in a playoff spot but lack the depth down the middle other contenders offer. Acquiring either Miller or Pettersson would provide a huge boost of high-end talent to a lineup that needs it to take the next step.
Previous reporting suggests the Canucks are looking for a top-six centre in return for Miller or Pettersson. That’s where the package would begin, and the other team would need to add to that.
The league source quoted in D’Amico’s article expands on the Canucks demand reporting not only would the Canucks want a top-six centre, or potentially a top-four defenceman, to help the roster right now but also a top prospect or first-round pick to build for the future.
The Bruins could build a package that matches those needs. They have roster players like Pavel Zacha, Brandon Carlo, Morgan Geekie, and Charlie Coyle, who could all fit the bill as a top-six centre or top-four defenceman. Mason Lohrei, Matthew Poitras, Fabian Lysell, or a top pick could help round out the package.
It remains to be seen if the Canucks are really going to deal one of Miller or Pettersson, but by all reports, they’re serious about it. The Bruins offer an interesting potential trade partner with some good pieces to get a deal over the line, so it makes sense the two sides are talking. All that remains to be seen is if those conversations can get a deal over the finish line.
