Description
English: As seen in June 2021: in the middle of Park Circle at the center of the village of Belmont, New York stands this Civil War monument "erected by the citizens of Amity in memory of the men of the township who offered their lives to their country in order that their country might live". This tall granite shaft is surrounded with carvings of cannons and cannonballs at the corners of its base, sports a relief on its side of a laurel wreath in front of two crossed swords, and is crowned with a bronze statue of Liberty holding a laurel wreath over the head of a kneeling soldier, musket in hand, with a furled American flag between them.
