English: Royal Air Force 1939-1945- Coastal Command On 13 July 1942 a Sunderland from the newly-formed No 461 Squadron RAAF rescued a No 77 Squadron Whitley crew in the Bay of Biscay. The skipper of the Sunderland was the CO, Wing Commander Neville Halliday, seen here handing out cigarettes to his relieved and hungry new passengers in an official re-enactment which took place at Mount Batten for the benefit of an official photographer. |
