Description

Tablet on the wall of the Maritime Museum in Tallinn, commemorating the escape of the Polish submarine ORP Orzeł from the port of Tallinn, which occurred on the night of 17/18 September, 1939, after the ship entered the harbor on September 15 and was interned by the Estonian government acting under German pressure. The submarine's escape served as a pretext for the USSR to establish military bases in Estonia, which then led to the annexation of the country into the USSR. Photo taken on July 8, 2006.
