Description
English: Matsya Yantra (
Fish machine
) (2 AD), on display at Visakha Museum, Andhra Pradesh, India. A magnetic compass used by the Indian mariners since 2nd century AD, to find true north and other directions. The compass has an iron fish, floated in a vessel of oil, and pointed to the north.
