[edit]DescriptionManhattan Central park 107th New York Infantry memorial.JPG |
English: 107th Infantry Regiment Memorial in Central Park, Manhattan, at Fifth Avenue and 67th Street.
The bronze figural group depicts seven larger-than-life-sized World War I (WWI) foot soldiers in battle. The piece, set on a massive stepped granite platform designed by architects Rogers and Haneman, was created it with money donated by the Seventh Regiment New York, 107th United Infantry Memorial Committee. It was dedicated in 1927.The sculptor, Karl Illava, was a sergeant with the 107th Infantry. He captures from memory the myriad emotions and physical responses to war. The seven larger than life-size figures display both the aggressive stance of combat as well as the concerned care of wounded comrades.
