| Description |
Madison Square is located at the intersection of Broadway, Madison Avenue, and 23rd Street. Madison Square Garden was originally here, before being moved to the spot above Pennsylvania Station in the 1960s. Today, Madison Square is still home to the original MetLife building in the background, as well as a statue of William Seward in front. Seward is best known for his 1867 purchase of Alaska from Russia; Alaska was considered a useless wasteland at the time, but the purchase paid off decades later in the form of discovery of gold and oil. |
