| Description |
English: Built in 1892, this Richardsonian Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Shieff and Highnam, and was expanded with additions in 1917 and 1924, designed by H. Rus Warne of Warne, Tucker and Patterson. The building features a rough-hewn stone exterior with a gabled and hipped roof, two towers with octagonal belfries, hipped roofs with finials, arched louver openings with metal screens, engaged columns, and bracketed eaves, one-over-one windows, arched transoms, a loggia at the second story of the front facade, recessed arched portals with engaged columns at the entrance bays, and a shorter tower on the Court Street facade. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and today, remains in use as a courthouse and office building for Kanawha County. |
