Notes He was the fifth son of Marianne Celeste Dragon and Andrea Dimitry. They were involved in an interracial marriage in the late 1700s. Michael Dracos was a prominent Creole educator in New Orleans. His brother was Alexander Dimitry. Michael married Sophia Powers (1817-1892) on January 12, 1836, which was also considered an interracial marriage because she was white. Together they were successful educators in New Orleans and owned the Orleans Female Academy which operated for twenty-seven years. Michael and his son Theodore John Dimitry were also educated at Georgetown and his other son Dracos Anthony Dimitry was the mayor of Carencro. His grandson was prominent optometrist Theodore John Dimitry Jr. he was a pioneer in the field of optometry and was responsible for developing the Dimitry Erisiphake and a plastic eye made of lucite to permit motion.
