Summary
[edit]DescriptionGorner Glacier melt adds to sea level rise ESA23955784.jpeg |
English: Situated near the Monte Rosa massif close to Zermatt, Switzerland, the Gorner Glacier is one of the most extensively studied glaciers in the world. Its front has been retreating drastically since the end of the 19th century, and in the last few years, its retreat has been accelerating. This water eventually ends up in the ocean. Ice melt from glaciers, such as Gorner, and from the ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland together account for almost two-thirds of sea-level rise. An ESA documentary features breathtaking scenery of the Gorner Glacier as well as interviews with climate specialists as they explain how we can monitor glaciers using both satellite data and in situ measurements.
