Am ersten Tag der Koalitionsverhandlungen nach der Bundestagswahl vom 2.12.1990 gaben die Generalsekretäre der drei beteiligten Parteien, Volker Rühe, CDU,
Cornelia Schmalz-Jacobsen, FDP, und Erwin Huber, CSU, eine Pressekonferenz
im Info-Saal des Bundeskanzleramtes.

Die Gespräche während der Verhandlungen wurden allgemein als sachlich und zielorientiert bezeichnet und sollen im Hinblick auf die noch für Dezember geplante Wahl des Bundeskanzlers zügig abgeschlossen werden.
