English: These photographs show a small boat on a beach at low tide in Brest harbor, whose hull is affected by biofouling. Biofouling is a phenomenon that appears in an aqueous or humid environment on the surface of an object immersed in this environment frequently or permanently. This phenomenon is explained by the development of micro and/or macro-organisms on the surface of the immersed object. In the marine environment, all substrates, living or dead, natural or artificial, are quickly colonized by these organisms naturally present in seawater (plants or animals). The types of materials on which these organisms develop are very broad. In maritime navigation, this phenomenon is a real problem, because it causes a slowdown in the means of transport and a degradation of the material. |
