DescriptionBert Trautmann's Neck Brace.jpg |
With 17 minutes of the 1956 FA Cup Final to go and Manchester City leading Birmingham City 3 - 1 , The Manchester City goalkeeper, Bert Trautmann broke his neck. Amazingly he carried on playing and Manchester City won the Cup. Only later was it discovered that Bert had broken his neck. He had to wear this very neck brace and missed out on most of the next season. Bert went down in football history and remains the only German ex Nazi Paratrooper to win an FA Cup Winner's medal. This can be seen at the National Football Museum in Manchester. |
