2.36 inch rocket

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 2.36 inch rocket (bazooka round) found at Former Curtis Bay Depot, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, in early 1999. Documented in trip report by William J. Sargent dated February 3-4, 1999, contained in Appendix A of the Site Inspection Report. Sargent's description follows:
We met back with Mr. Scholle after lunch, and he took us down to the project site trailer located along the Patrol Bridge Road and in the vicinity of the incinerator or old small arms "popper". We met with the contractor and found out at that time, the MKM Engineering was being supported by EHSI, a UXO subcontractor. We were then briefed on the site and what had happened. The contractor indicated that they had been scrapping the surface to remove small arms residue when they encountered ordnance items. They were working around an old railroad track spur adjacent to Furnace Creek when they encountered a 2.36 inch Rocket (bazooka round) and approximately 24 Stokes mortar rounds. The contractor was not prepared to do demolition work on these items, because they had only expected to encounter small arms items. The 2.36 inch Rocket was intact except for the standoff nose piece, and was assumed to be "live". The Stokes mortar rounds were not fuzed and the primers were impinged. The rounds were full of dirt, so they were assumed to have explosives in them until it was proved otherwise. The rocket was placed in the old incinerator and the mortar rounds were moved into the incinerator on 4 February.
