Military people categories
Hello Anathema,
Thanks for your efforts to sort the above, but I'm wondering whether you're aware of the distinction between categorisation and disambiguation...? Suggest the following:
Military people (UK, Air Force) | → | Military people/Military people by country/British military people/Royal Air Force personnel |
Military people (Great Britain) and Military people (English) |
→ | Military people/Military people by country/British military people |
Military people (UK, Navy) | → | Military people/Military people by country/British military people/Royal Navy personnel |
...and so on. Hope you understand; if anything unclear, please ask. Regards, David Kernow 12:12, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hello David, i am very well aware of the Diff between disambiguation and categorisation. But i was _not_ aware of the existence of the Category:Military_people_by_country since it is only three weeks old. And i don't like it. ;-) I prefer the older variant "Military people (UK)" instead of "British military people". But I think, the name is not that important. Thank you very much for bringing this cat to my attention. I think, I have to reconsider the whole military people category system. I am sure, we will come to an agreement. --Anathema 12:42, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
From using Wikipedia, I suppose I am used to reading words in brackets as disambiguation when they are part of a name, so my apologies for querying something you already know. I'd avoid adding words in brackets to a category name (as in the examples above) since they suggest subcategories. This is only my point of view, however, so perhaps a consensus needs to be found. Knowing no better, I'd post a message at the Village pump. Best wishes, David Kernow 18:39, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Adminship
You've been nominated for adminship at Commons:Administrators/Requests and votes/Anathema. Please indicate there whether you accept the nomination. User:dbenbenn 03:57, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- And now you are an admin. Congratulations! Just remember that images can't be undeleted, so please be careful when deleting them. User:dbenbenn 03:53, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Military people
What is the category scheme you guys are shooting for with "Military people"? Is it Military people (UK) for Montgomery, then give him a category as a general or a marshal or avoid the marshal/general concept confusion and call him a military leader. I don't really care, I just want to know what the plan is. -Mak 00:07, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Commons-l subscription
Hello Anathema,
as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.
If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 22:56, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

--Franczeska 10:55, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:James_M._Gavin.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Image Tagging Image:FleetAdmiral.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:FleetAdmiral.gif. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Please add a source, as is required of all images before undoing my valid deletion of an unsourced image. Majorly (talk) 19:15, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Please switch on your brain before deleting valid pictures. This picture dates from the 16th century, there is no need for a source, it's obviously in the Public Domain. --Anathema 19:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Please switch off personal attacks. The picture must have a source. The same applies to your other images. Please add a source instead of removing the tag. Thank you. Majorly (talk) 19:21, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding some information to one of them. The others where you reverted me still require some info. Thanks for you time. Majorly (talk) 19:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I took you for a new bot, which deletes mechanically a list of pictures without thinking over the sense and purpose of his measures. I gave you all information you need, additionally they are in the pictures itself, self-explaining. A sketch from the 16th century is in the public domain, with or without source. There is no need for deletion. The other deleted Photographs obviously show people from the 19th century. When do you think were they photographed? Last week? They are in the Public Domain now, obviously! Any further information is nice to have, in an encyclopedic sense, but there lacking is no reason for deletion (besides harping on about principles).
