Re: Temp undelete
I just checked Canadian Wikilivres but did not see the two files to be transferred. I do not know which tool facilitates such a transfer.--Jusjih (talk) 01:54, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
- I asked Yann to finish the transfer, I don't have upload rights over there. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 04:29, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Guten Tag, vielleicht meine Schuld.
Was nun?
LG, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 21:17, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Hedwig in Washington: N'Amnd!
--Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:10, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
File Renaming Requests for File:Republic of China Coast Guard Seal.svg and File:Emblem of Office of the President ROC.svg
Hi, I requested renaming File:Republic of China Coast Guard Seal.svg based on criterion #1 and File:Emblem of Office of the President ROC.svg based on criterion #4. Besides, I also gave the additional explanations. You declined both requests and only said them "do not comply with renaming guidelines", but without any concrete reason. You may look at Category:Coats of arms of Taiwan and Special:Contributions/Akira123, and you will see most seals, logos, and emblems of the central government of ROC (Taiwan) are consistently named in the scheme, "ROC_Department_Name_Seal/Logo/Emblem", with a significant number and percentage of files. What I am doing is to try to make the minority of files named in other formats to be revised in the same naming way. Moreover, following the footnote of file renaming criterion #4, it said that "files that form parts of a whole should follow the same naming convention so that they appear together, in order, in categories and lists." That is, I think my requests conform with criterion #4 To harmonize the file names of a set of images. If you still disagree, could you the specific reasons why they don't comply with renaming guidelines? Thanks a lot.--Akira123 (talk) 14:00, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- Because there is no need to rename files that are used on many wikis for cosmetic reasons. The seals you want to rename are not from a set. I continue to oppose the renaming. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:25, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Hi,
I'm briefly looking at restorations and see that you undeleted this file to examine the metadata/EXIF. Is there no other way to do that? If done frequently this makes a bit of a mess of any audit trail. @Steinsplitter: for ideas. Thanks --Fæ (talk) 14:10, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- There is no way to do it onwiki. You have to download the file and open it in a exif reader or restoring the file. :-( --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:13, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Steinsplitter: Sure, but an admin can access the file and download it locally for examination without taking a 'restore' action? --Fæ (talk) 14:22, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- Yes. --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:24, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- Well, that's how I do it. I don't want to go on a hunt to find a specific image on the web. I don't like the idea to restore the file here as well. Maybe there will be a better solution in one of the next releases. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:22, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

File:Cactus piece.jpg
You asked for information on the source of the image File:Cactus piece.jpg. It's from a book published about 120 years ago. That information in the description and has been there since I originally uploaded that image over a decade ago.... Crypticfirefly (talk) 06:08, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
- I noticed! Thank you for transferring the info! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:49, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Warning
Since your fellow compatriots seem to be very unlikely to cooperate when inquired :) could you please tell to this user in your language that either he replies and stop ignoring my warnings or he's going to be blocked, please? -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 14:37, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Done @Blackcat: Feel free to swing the hammer if his behavior continues. I am a little doubtful that he will reply. There's not much talk from him on his home wiki talk either. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:48, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- Ok thanks Hedwig, though I don't like to use the hammer. As much as I can I do prefer to talk to people rather that bashing a stick on their head... -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 08:35, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Upload from Biblioteca Virtual de Defensa
Why cannot it be CC0? It is listed as CC0 in the original page, an official page from the Spanish Government. Please check the URL listed as source, and click on "Derechos de autor" in that page. It says: "The Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication (CC0)". Aracali (talk) 04:59, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Photo Copyright
Hi, you made a warning on the page Work Permit because i added some photos concerning the subject. Why so ? Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ata Kurumsal (talk • contribs) 08:06, 03 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi! The permit and its design is owned by the Turkish Government and not yours to relicense. Best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 08:11, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Hedwig,
Yes, the metadata of my photos does say "No use permitted without author's consent", but then, I do give my consent by submitting under Creative Commons license, don't I?
Not that I want to quarrel, I'm just learning to do things properly.
Cheers, Greg
PS Other photos I did submit to Wikimedia Commonms have the same notice, and that was never an issue. :-/ --GJG (talk) 10:18, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- No problem. But a bunch of eyes will see that and you'll probably get a lot of request to change it. Since you just started, I thought it might be a good idea to do the few images now, instead of waiting and doing a lot later. Do you have the software to change your metadata? If not, there's a long and confusing list on en wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_metadata_editors --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 10:20, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it's not an issue. I do proivide (limited) consent by invoking the CC lcensing, don't I?
What I really don't like is someone removing my work before the discussion even starts in earnest, as it happened in this case.
I did upload a new version with metadata changed, but I have an unpleasant aftertaste of the experience.

Deleted Picture
Hi, a few minutes ago you deleted the picture https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Baumann-Michael.jpg that I recently uploaded. I have the permission of the photographer, he will send the permission soon per email to permissions-de@wikimedia.org Please restore the picture.
