English: The Federal Chancellor of Germany (German: Deutsche/r Bundeskanzler/in; before 1949: Deutscher Reichskanzler) is the head of the German Federal Government.

Bundeskanzler of the North German Confederation (1867–1871)

[edit]

Reichskanzler of the German Empire (1871–1918) – „Kaiserreich“

[edit]

Reichskanzler of the Weimar Republic (1918–1933)

[edit]

The title Reichskanzler was used from November 9th to 10th 1918, then called Vorsitzender des Rates der Volksbeauftragten, then Reichsministerpräsident, and from August 14th 1919 again Reichskanzler.

Reichskanzler of Nazi Germany (1933–1945) – “Third Reich”/„Drittes Reich“

[edit]

The title Reichskanzler was used until the death of Paul von Hindenburg in 1934, then Hitler was called Führer und Reichskanzler (ger. leader and chancellor of the empire (then also head of state)).

Only after Hitlers death on April 30th 1945, Joseph Goebbels became Reichskanzler for two days, Graf Lutz Schwerin von Krosigk was Leiter der Geschäftsführenden Reichsregierung (chief of the acting government) for six days until the unconditional surrender, may 8th.
