'''WikiProject Books''' is a collaborative effort to help import and organise books on Wikimedia Commons and work with librarians and institutions outside of project to help preserve historical books and documents in the public domain.

== Online sources to import from ==

Below is a list of online resources where there are many files of books that are in the public domain which can be downloaded from books.google.com, box.com, Etc. These are generally in the public domain but their [[Commons:Licensing|copyright status]] and [[Commons:Scope|educational value]] needs to be individually assessed prior to uploading them to Wikimedia Commons.

* Maybe this WikiProject might work best if it were a respiratory of links 🔗 for sources to upload from and have a list of newly uploaded .pdf and .djvu files 📁 to be monitored and correctly categorised. 

* Of course starting partnerships with other websites like Google and the Internet Archive would probably be more important than "direct uploading" itself as these businesses tend to generate "for themselves" even if they have the public in mind, so by "dual-uploading" it they would get "free advertisement" at Wikimedia Commons while their books will be available from this platform also.

* Another (early) concept is simply using this WikiProject to raise awareness of the possibilities of uploading books and other .pdf- and .djvu-based works to Wikimedia Commons. 🤔
