The unmet needs associated with chronic kidney disease are substantial. #CKD is on track to becoming the 5th leading cause of death globally by 2050, and costs more than €140 billion in Europe annually. To bring these worrying trends to a halt, we must enhance programmes that ensure early diagnosis and access to quality treatment. Around 100 million Europeans suffer from #ChronicKidneyDisease, and #CKD costs around €140 billion in Europe annually. CKD is underway to becoming the 5th leading cause of death globally by 2050 and already stands as an #NCD with a considerable disease burden. But this does not have to be the case, and screening and early detection can reduce the impact of CKD on patients and their loved ones and on healthcare systems. The unmet needs are high in rare kidney diseases, which also account for most cases of chronic kidney disease in children. Although there are few therapies approved to treat rare kidney diseases, it is still possible to improve the prognoses through early detection and optimal care. Please join us at the EKHA Kidney Forum on 28 January in the European Parliament to support more focus and better outcomes in common and rare kidney diseases. Kidney disease can also impact other organs systems. By prioritizing early detection and timely management, we can prevent complications and improve the quality of life for the 10% of the European population which is estimated to live with a kidney disease. Please join us at the EKHA Kidney Forum on 28 January in the European Parliament to discuss how we can improve kidney care all over Europe. 🙏 Marianne Silkjær Nielsen, caregiver and founder of CompCure European Renal Association (ERA) EDTNA/ERCA - European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association/European Renal Care Association EKPF - European Kidney Patients' Federation Nierstichting International Society of Nephrology ESOT - European Society for Organ Transplantation ERKNet

Kidney diseases tend to appear and progress in silence. Often no one will notice them in the early stages, not even yourself. This is why screening is essential to secure early diagnoses, optimal care, and prevention of end-stage-renal disease. Please join the EKHA Kidney Forum on 28 January in the European Parliament. Together we can support better kidney health in Europe. 🙏 Ida Maria Schmidt, Paediatric Nephrologist, Rigshospitalet, Chair of the Danish Society of Paediatric Nephrology (DaBNeS).
