In a joint effort to tackle one of the most contaminated sites in Flanders, we’ve teamed up with OVAM and Antea Group Belgium to take on the task of remediating the former arsenic factory grounds in Bocholt (Belgium), 53 years after its closure. The remediation of the former arsenic factory site is a complex and delicate operation. With heavy metals deeply embedded in the soil, our environmental specialists will use specialised expertise and advanced techniques to tackle the pollution. Five years after the remediation efforts are concluded, there should be significant improvement in the groundwater quality in the vicinity of the site, highlighting the importance of continued long-term monitoring and maintenance of the remediated area. Recently, we welcomed local residents to the site, giving them an opportunity to learn about the project and see firsthand how we will restore the contaminated land. #soilremediation #soilpollution #watertreatment #bocholt #reppel

Double milestone at the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind farm in the US. This week, DEME celebrates the strong cooperation with Dominion Energy as CVOW hits the key milestone of installing 70 monopile foundations. DEME’s offshore installation vessel ‘Orion’, staffed with expert DEME employees and skilled local union members, has been making tremendous progress installing foundations off the coast of Virginia. Additionally, we have successfully laid the first export cable using the DEME cable installation vessel ‘Living Stone’. We also want to give a special shout out to the teams at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal, a premiere staging area, for all their support in making DEME’s operations such a success. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with the US Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia International Terminals, Inc., The Port of Virginia, Prysmian and other key partners in the months ahead as we help build one of America’s largest clean energy projects. Once completed, the wind farm will consist of 176 turbines, generating enough renewable energy to power up to 660,000 homes. #offshorewind #CVOW #virginia #energytransition

The fishing village of Lahou-Kpanda on the Grand-Lahou peninsula in the Ivory Coast illustrates the climate challenges the region is facing. Once thriving and idyllic, this village endures the harsh realities of global warming: rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and extreme weather conditions. The advancing sea threatens to swallow the village, forcing residents to relocate. Last year, DEME was awarded a tender organised by The World Bank to stabilise the Grand-Lahou peninsula. The project includes dredging channels in the Tagba Lagoon to ensure safe navigation for fishermen, creating a new pass from the lagoon to the sea, and reinforcing the existing sand barrier with 1 million m³ of sand. By collaborating with the Lahou-Kpanda community and the World Bank, DEME aims to develop a sustainable solution that will safeguard the future of this coastal village. The project will take approximately one year to complete. 👉 Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/eTxFwCtS #dredging #ivorycoast #grandlahou #coastalprotection

🚴♀️What a ride! The Blankenburg Connection was a key part of the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes. The ‘Grand Départ’ kicked off in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with the riders becoming the first and only ones to cycle over the newly constructed Blankenburg Connection and through the Maasdeltatunnel. And there was another first, as this was the first time that the start of the Tour de France Femmes took place abroad. After years of hard work, the Blankenburg Connection is set to officially open to car traffic on 7 December, significantly improving accessibility in the Rotterdam area. We're proud to have played a role in the construction as part of the BAAK Blankenburgverbinding consortium alongside Ballast Nedam. 📷: Rijkswaterstaat #blankenburgverbinding #maasdeltatunnel #immersedtunnel #infra #TDFF2024

🚦🌟 After 7.5 years of construction, the new road N434 and the accompanying Corbulotunnel have officially opened in the Netherlands! This new infrastructure directly connects the A44 and A4 near Leiden, significantly improving mobility in the province of South Holland. Comol5 RijnlandRoute, an international consortium of DEME, Mobilis TBI, Croonwolter&dros and VINCI Construction Grands Projets, was responsible for the reconstruction of the Leiden West junction, the construction of the new N434, and modifications to the A4 and A44. Comol5 will also be responsible for the 15-year maintenance of the N434. A remarkable part of the N434 highway is the 2.5 km bored Corbulotunnel, which runs under Voorschoten and the Rijn-Schiekanaal (the Vliet). With the completion of the new road infrastructure, our infra experts add another tunnel project to their portfolio, next to three ongoing immersed tunnel projects. 📷: Vincent Basler #rijnlandroute #infrastructure #infra #rijkswaterstaat #zuidholland #tunnel #roadconstruction
