DSS longitudinal studies recently received international attention, appearing in presentations at the 2024 Society for Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies (SLLS) conference in the United Kingdom. Longitudinal studies follow the same individuals or households across time. They can help us to understand issues including living pressures or problems that children and teenagers face. November is National Adoption Awareness Month. Adopting a child can be both rewarding and challenging, and there can be extra challenges when it comes to intercountry adoption. The Australian Government funds an independent, nationwide Intercountry Adoptee and Family Support Service (ICAFSS), delivered by Relationships Australia. ICAFSS provides free intercountry adoption-specific therapeutic support including counselling, information and education to adoptees, their families and prospective adoptive parents. It’s important to be aware of fake websites and social media scams. Scammers can make posts or pages that look and sound genuine, but their offers to help are fake. We are aware of some pages pretending to be the Department of Social Services (DSS) and its programs such as the National Rental Affordability Scheme, No Interest Loans Scheme, Emergency Relief and National Redress Scheme. To find out how to protect yourself or to report a fake post or account, visit scamwatch.gov.au Your report helps stop scammers and warns others.
