Labour won 410 seats to the incumbent Tory government's 119, with prime minister Rishi Sunak conceding defeat.
Polling suggests it could bring an end to 14 years of the Conservative party in government, and lead to Labour opposition leader Keir Starmer being installed in Downing Street as the new prime minister.
As it stands, all opinion polls still give the opposition Labour party a decisive lead that’s consistent with them reaching a majority in the House of Commons.
