Elon Musk’s X wins appeal to block California content moderation law

My only thought is "What more can I do to distance myself from Xitter than to have deleted my account?" To have no further negative commercial impact makes me feel powerless.

FBI busts musician’s elaborate AI-powered $10M streaming royalty heist

Probably all the fake accounts that were listening to the music and generating the numbers to support the income violated the TOS. But then one wonders why this isn't being handled by arbitration.

Mark Zuckerberg regrets not pushing back on Biden’s COVID “pressure” campaign

I would like to see the 'pressure' identified. I can say I'm 'pressured' by society all the time, by ads in my face, by lying orange politicians. But was it 1st amendment pressure, or just way too many 'could you please stop's?

Google can’t defend shady Chrome data hoarding as “browser agnostic,” court says

As a person who has opted out of ever using Chrome, I believe I also opted out of syncing a Google account with Chrome. Seems the opt-out should be browser agnostic, and pretty much the entire world should be part of the class action!

Ars asks: What was the last CD or DVD you burned?

Backups of user content when upgrading machines over a decade ago? But I still have 2 of the super-drives that are being discontinued. I'll never give them up until they die - I have music CD's from decades ago squirreled away. I may need to listen to them someday.

macOS 15 Sequoia makes you jump through more hoops to disable Gatekeeper app checks

I could have Ctrl clicked? I've always used Settings to override.

ISPs seeking government handouts try to avoid offering low-cost broadband

Are you kidding? They're white men! What else could they be?

Major outages at CrowdStrike, Microsoft leave the world with BSODs and confusion

I work on Mainframe, and all our Mainframe jobs were just fine - but our secure FTP connections to external servers? Not so fine.

Ex-OpenAI star Sutskever shoots for superintelligent AI with new company

A "cracked" team? Not sure that's a good thing!

What to expect at WWDC 24: Big iOS changes, more Vision Pro, and so much AI

Has anyone else noticed that all the return addressing and delivery notifications for purchases from Apple Inc say only "AI" as the source? They are AI.

Do you need a dentist visit every 6 months? That filling? The data is weak

I get three, one every 4 months rather than one every 6 months, because I've had periodontal disease. Trust me, after one scaling and root-planing, you'll accept whatever recommendations they make to avoid another! ;)

Bridge collapses put transportation agencies’ emergency plans to the test

This seems awfully tone-deaf to me, especially in the hours just after such a tragedy. Didn't people die? Cars went into the water. Divers are still looking for them.

Florida braces for lawsuits over law banning kids from social media

I recall getting the older kids to buy booze for a small fee, when the drinking age was 18. Older kids can be "parents" for a small fee. How would social media determine the relationship?

Comcast to stop calling entire network “10G,” as name is ruled misleading

Silly people, you're looking at the value the wrong way! $1,000 setup, $300 per month for 2.5 years = $10G.

Microsoft Edge is apparently seamlessly usurping Chrome on people’s PCs

I'm going to be "that" guy - the grammar?!?! "... each time you BROWSING on Microsoft Edge"

Drastic moves by X, Microsoft may not stop spread of fake Taylor Swift porn

I wonder about the approach of going after people who share rather than people who create. Doesn't that put a legal burden on the common man to be able to recognize AI generated images?

Google lays off “dozens” from X Labs, wants projects to seek outside funding

So is Pachai trying to reverse what was done when all the little "bets" were conglomerated into the Alpha-bet, and make Alphabet the one-trick pony named Google Ad Search all over again?

FTC moves to block platforms from making money off data of children

So I'll need two separate identities: One as an adult for porn; and one as a child to not be monetized and targeted by ads. (And I'll be using the child identity most of the time!)

Stop comparing X’s dismal ad sales to Twitter’s past success, X exec says

Can a company really change its structures and purview just with a re-name? Aren't there regulatory filings required? (I really don't know.)
