Managing Your Holdings With Your Library Service Provider

General Notes

Although Project MUSE KBARTs are always up to date when retrieved or delivered, the delivery of KBARTs to library service providers typically occurs once a week. This applies to KBARTs for common/community packages as well as customized holdings via KBART automation. This delivery schedule is based on agreements between Project MUSE and library service providers.

Excel title lists, KBARTs, and MARC records are available for all our institutional customers regardless of their library service provider and can be retrieved from our library metadata page and the library EBA management page.

ExLibris Alma

The preferred method for managing Project MUSE holdings is using KBART automated holdings.

First, obtain your institution ID by emailing [email protected] and then follow ExLibris Alma's directions.

KBART automated holdings are designed to support your purchased books, your EBA accessible pool, and your journal subscriptions.

KBART automated holdings makes use of the following baseline collections:

  • 615450000000005144    Project MUSE: Universal books
  • 615450000000005145    Project MUSE: EBA books (automated holdings baseline)
  • 615450000000005146    Project MUSE: Universal journals

ExLibris' KBART Automated holdings will then make a call to the Project MUSE API and receive results that specific to your institution.

Alternatively, you are welcome to manage holdings the traditional way by enabling community zone collections (even though this probably means substantially more work for you).

The Alma Community Zone Collection List can be retrieved on their site - Alma Community Zone Collection List.

For self-managed EBA program holdings, use (615410000000003019 Project Muse Current EBA Base Title List). Although most EBA programs are complete, your program might be limited and you will then need to select a subset of titles.

Project For BCC programs or books purchased individually, use single title (615410000000000517 MUSE Single Title).

Previous year subject-based collections all have defined collections in ExLibris Alma with titles that should be self-identifying.

Open Access books

Regardless of whether you use KBART automated holdings or use community zone collections directly, open access books are managed by the library. Project MUSE understands that libraries may have collection development policies that implement restrictions on selection. Libraries can still choose to enable the whole collection (614330000000001179 Project MUSE Open Access Books) or select titles individually.

360/Summon

360/Summon is developing support for KBART automation.

360/Summon collection names are the same as ExLibris Alma.

OCLC Worldshare

The preferred method for managing Project MUSE holdings is using KBART automation.

First, obtain your institution ID by emailing [email protected] and then follow OCLC Worldshare's directions.

KBART automated holdings are designed to support your purchased books, your EBA accessible pool, and your journal.

KBART automation makes use of baseline collections:

  • Muse.ebooks Project MUSE Universal Ebooks
  • Muse.ebookseba Project MUSE Universal EBA Ebooks
  • Muse.journals Project MUSE Universal Journals

For BCC programs or books purchased individually, use Project MUSE All Ebooks (Muse.allebooks, Project Muse All Ebooks).

EBSCO EDS

Project MUSE is working with developers at EBSCO EDS to support KBART automation. There is no estimated launch date for this service.

Project MUSE books and journals will need to be managed by collection. Actual collection names for Project MUSE are behind a login so we can't provide specific guidance on selecting packages by name.
