HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Rounds of showers and storms continue through Tuesday until a cold front swings through on Election Day. Strong to severe storms are even possible late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Fast-paced showers and isolated storms will continue to stream in from the Gulf Monday. Otherwise, a gusty, southeast breeze will blow in through the day Monday as we await a cold front to move through overnight. That means temperatures will rise back into the mid 80s Monday.

A Coastal Flooding Advisory is in effect along the Southeast Texas coast until 6 a.m. Tuesday. A stronger southeast breeze could lead to coastal, street and area flooding especially during times of high tide.

Heard there's the chance for severe weather this week. When do those stronger storms arrive?

While we can't rule out a stray storm Monday afternoon that could grow and hold torrential rains and gusty winds, the main concern for severe weather arrives with a cold front Monday night into Tuesday morning. This front will likely be on our doorstep Monday night, potentially moving into College Station around midnight. Then this front and the storms with it will track from north to south into Southeast Texas overnight into early Tuesday morning. Strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning are the main concerns. These storms could be over Houston between 4 and 7 a.m. Tuesday, which could impact your plans to head to the polls on Election Day. Scattered thunderstorms will then continue on Election Day, but gradually conditions will begin to dry out Tuesday afternoon and into the evening hours.

What will the weather be like on Election Day?

Prepare for it to be a rainy and stormy day, especially in the morning. There's even the potential for a few of those storms to be strong to severe with damaging winds, heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning. Street and area flooding plus blinding rains could be impacts on your way to the polls Tuesday morning. Generally, the trend is for conditions to be drier by Tuesday afternoon and evening, but we cant rule out a few showers and storms later in the day Tuesday. And with this being a cold front, temperatures will drop a little. Temperatures in the mining will be in the mid-upper 60s with afternoon highs only rebounding into the mid 70s.

When can we expect temperatures to really cool off again?

While temperatures Tuesday will be slightly cooler, it might not feel that way with the thunderstorms and humidity. Wednesday morning temperatures will be in the low 60s, but onshore flow from the gulf quickly returns to boost highs back into the 80s for the next 10 days.

What are you tracking in the tropics?

Tropical Storm Rafael has developed in the southern Caribbean and is expected to strengthen into a Cat. 2 hurricane before making landfall in western Cuba. From there, the storm will track north making it into the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane Wednesday evening. From there, there is a lot of uncertainty to where the storm could track and how strong it could be, but the entire gulf Coast should begin monitoring the situation. It does look like conditions will be a bit more hostile for development in the Gulf so we are planning on seeing some weakening as it tracks through the Gulf. No hurricane on record has ever made landfall in Texas during the month of November. Head to our daily Tropical Update page for a complete look at what we're covering in the tropics.
