Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore

About
Founded in 1826, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) has been named the best Northeastern college by Princeton Review for the last few years and is ranked 4th out of 220 for visual arts graduate programs by the US News & World Report. The college offers courses leading to a bachelor of fine arts (BFA), master of arts (MA) and master of fine arts (MFA). In the tradition of the finest art academies this school stresses the importance of figure drawing (from nude models and life). Artists have a wide range of subjects to choose from including animation, ceramics, illustration, printmaking, painting, graphic design and photography. Also available are courses on art history, theory, humanistic studies and community arts.

MICA is recognized as an important cultural center for the Baltimore/ Washington region, hosting student exhibitions, sponsoring community art projects, artist residencies, lectures, readings, live performances and film series. Notable former pupils included muralist C.Y. Turner, one of the founder of the Arts Student League in New York and later Director of Maryland Institute.

The School of Art + Design, Montgomery College, Takoma Park

About
Montgomery College, The School of Art + Design, is a college for students majoring in studio art or graphic design and non-credit students seeking skills in fine and digital arts. The college offers an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) which is a foundation curriculum parallel to the first 2 years of a baccalaureate in fine arts (BFA). Core studies include drawing, colour theory, and 2-D and 3-D design as well as painting, printmaking and sculpture. Students who graduate from SA+D go on to pursue further studies in the fields of fine art, video game design, museum work, interior design, advertising, art education and fashion design.

Tuition Fee: State residents $5536 per semester, and non state residents $7,456 per semester.
